9.3.2.2 Time zone
The time zone that is just west of the date line is thus the first time zone where
the date changes every 24 hours.
In the following 23 hours, the other 23 time zones follow.
The countries just west of the date line are therefore the first to celebrate New
Year, and the countries just east of the date line the last.
Here you see an illustration of the
connection between the date line (the red
line) and the date and time of day.
You can see an animation here.

9.3.3 UCT time / Zulu time and local time
o
The earth is divided into 24 time zones, each with an extension of 15 .
o
o
0 goes through Greenwich, and the time zone then goes 7½ on either side of
this.
East of Greenwich is called E (for east), west of is called W.
o
o
The time zone we are in here in Denmark goes from 7½ E to 22½ E with the
o
center at 15 E.
Since the earth rotates once on its axis per day, 1⁰ corresponds to 4 min. Within
each zone, the time is the same.
This time is called standard time or Local Mean Time (LMT).
