Solution:

- Distance Equator 0o to 12 34’N = 12 34’ (12 degrees and 34 minutes)

Since 1 = 60 minutes and 1 minute = 1 NM we get: 12 x 60 = 720 NM

To this we must add 34 minutes = 34 NM

Total distance: 720 + 34 = 754 NM

- Distance Equator 0 to 04 36’S = 4 36’ (4 degrees and 36 minutes)
We use the same method as above: (4 x 60 + 36) NM = 276 NM

- Total distance = 754 NM + 276 NM = 1030 NM
