In the nation of Israel, it was David. When Jesus ascended
to heaven, He gave gifts to men for the equipping of the
church – apostles and prophets were given for the founding
of the church (Ephesians 2: 20) and pastors and evangelists
were given for the vision and encouragement of the church
(Ephesians 4: 11).
In Revelation 1:20, John saw the glorified risen Christ in
the midst of the 7 churches holding 7 stars in His hands.
These 7 stars in Jesus’ hand were the messengers (pastors)
of each church. They are referred to as stars because they

Israel – elders, leaders, husbands, wives and children and
spoke to all the people according to all that the Lord has
commanded him to tell them.

a spiritual covering for the congregation – including the
husbands, wives and children. Through the pastor’s love
and caring as a shepherd and a teacher of God’s Word, he is
to encourage the congregation with the spiritual vision and
the spiritual nourishment which they need for their lives.

EXPERIENCED PASTOR WHO BECOMES A SPIRITUAL
COVERING FOR HIM.” Why is this necessary? There are 2
main reasons:
