were ill. We had sold our labour for a pittance. But the bosses who
had lived in luxury houses and used luxury cars with our labour
had taken the machines away when things were not going well be-
cause they coveted what 94 workers earned with the sweat of their
labour. We were determined to expose them to the whole country
and get our rights back and we planned to gather together again

        on Wednesday.

On Wednesday we started to gather again on Sisli Square.
Every morning we had rushed past this square so as not to be late
for work, but this time we marched more slowly so more people
would hear our voices. The workers, the friends from DIH, from
the Halk Cephesi (People’s Front) all formed a block of marchers

when we saw we were getting support, we called out to workers
who were on their afternoon break, their voices echoed ours and
gave us growing confidence and their support made our own
voices a little louder with each step we marched. And in front of

the factory where we had spent our lives, we shouted out to the
bosses who had fled and taken away our rights, announcing that
we would not give up the struggle.

On Sunday we carried out an action in front of the bosses’
house. We would expose the dishonour of the Somuncus who had
taken away workers’ rights, by appearing in front of the Somuncu
