on duty put the tea on, a Sisli municipality worker came by. He
was given some tea. Later workers from local factories came by.
Some said hello, others kept their distance. The workers made ef-
forts to tell them about the resistance.

May Day came and the government banned entry to Taksim,

claiming that work was going on there and there was a need for
security. The workers were resolute. We had waited for years to
get into Taksim and finally succeeded. Indeed, the previous year
had been the second largest May Day rally in the world and it took
place there. No problems had resulted. What they were afraid of
was simply large numbers of workers coming together in one place.

Most of the Kazova workers had never previously taken part

in May Day. Beforehand we decided what to do. There was a pos-
sibility of the tent being attacked close to where we gathered. So
we decided to remove the tent and collet together in the morning
in Sisli. On the morning of May Day just two friends were able to
meet up in front of the DISK building in Sisli. Other friends did
not get to Sisli. The friends in front of DISK went to Osmanbey
Street. They went as far as a police road block. They withdrew
when there was police intervention. Of the two Kazova workers
in front of DISK, for one of them it was his first participation in
May Day. “I thought they attacked participants in May Day but I

never thought they would attack me using a TOMA water cannon
vehicle. I thought I was going to die.”

That day, the daughter of one of us who regularly took part
in the Saturday protests, Dilan, was wounded in the head by a gas
capsule. As soon as we heard, as the Kazova workers we rushed
to the hospital. Resistance teaches, as we do it and see it also. The
