Kazova Workers ‘Own The Means Of Production’
The Kazova textile workers were thrown out of work without
having their wages paid and without compensation, and have been
resisting since February, and the weaving machines in their sweater
factory have been seized by them against the wages owed to them
by court decision.
There was an “extraordinary development” in the Kazova fac-
tory, which is located in the Bomonti neighbourhood of Sisli. The
workers began resistance last February because they were thrown
out of work without wages and were given no compensation, and
by court decision they seized the weaving machines in the factory
against the wages that were owed to them. Since the factory has
been sold, the workers are today moving the machinery to another
site in Kagithane, and will start producing sweaters as a coopera-
tive.
The Kazova workers were not paid their wages last February
and a section of the workers were also fired without compensation,
and without an agreement being reached there was an application
for sequestration to a court, which gave the machines remaining
in the factory to the workers against their wages and seniority. Be-
cause the factory has been sold, 12 workers are moving the factory
to a building in Kagithane today, where they plan to set up a co-
operative and to manufacture sweaters. Under the supervision of
bailiffs and police, they loaded the machines onto lorries with the
help of a winch and moved them to the new building.
