Major Crime – In Store or On Our Property
The safety of your Guests and Team Members is your first priority, always. There are specific measures we
have in place to ensure you are doing everything possible to keep everyone safe from a crime inside the store,
including a robbery. A very important fact to keep in mind is that robberies can happen, and do happen at all
times of the day. It’s imperative that you are always aware of your surroundings whether it’s when you’re
arriving at the store in the morning, during your shift, or at closing.
PREVENTING A ROBBERY OR BURGLARY
Make sure locking devices and alarm sensors on all doors are operating properly.
Ensure that your alarm system is tested quarterly and is in good working order.
Ensure that closers on all exterior doors are in good working order and are adjusted so that the doors
close and latch automatically without having to be pulled shut.
Make sure all emergency exit doors that are not typically used during business hours are locked at the end
of the night to ensure they haven’t been tampered with to gain access to the building after closing.
Ensure access cards and key accesses are changed when Managers are terminated.
OPENING THE STORE
The Manager is REQUIRED to open the store with another Manager or Team Member. Entering the building
alone is not permitted at any time.
Circle the building before entering. Check the premises from all directions, looking for anything or anyone
suspicious. This could include people you know, especially if there is no reason for them to be there. If
anything makes you suspicious, drive away and call 911 so law enforcement can investigate.
Enter through the door that’s designated as your main Manager’s (secured) entrance for your store.
Never prop ANY door open. Manager will open door for Team Members as they arrive prior to opening.
THROUGHOUT THE SHIFT
Managers are REQUIRED to make certain all Team Members fully understand our security procedures.
Always keep the back door locked. The office door and safe MUST remain locked at all times.
Manager keys must NOT be handed out to any Team Member for any reason.
Keep shrubbery and other landscaping from obstructing the view of windows and doors.
Ensure that parking lot lighting is fully operational at all times.
Team Members should avoid showing the amount of cash on their person during a shift.
Petty cash should always be maintained in the office safe and locked at all times. The standard company
petty cash limit policy is not to exceed preapproved amount.
Keep cash on hand to a minimum. Make drops every shift or more frequently, if necessary.
