WHEN THE STORE HAS LOST POWER FOR 5 MINUTES OR MORE
Ensure that the emergency lighting is working properly throughout the building.
Immediately pull all Managers and Key Staff Members together to game plan the evacuations of the
building, ensuring that all safety precautions are taken. Designate stations for all Managers and Key Staff
Members with the proper instructions on how to handle Guest’s questions and Staff procedures in securing
all tabs, banks and deposits.
No banks should be pulled from the tills until all Guests have left the building.
Pull out the emergency flashlights and disperse them to your Key Staff Members and Managers.
FOH and Amusement Managers along with all available Captains should evacuate the building using
flashlights to escort the Guests to the door.
Post signs and Captains at all entrance doors to answer Guest’s questions. Also post a Captain at the
Winner’s Circle to ensure the area is secured.
The FOH Manager and Captain’s Staff should now sweep the building to ensure all doors are secured and
battery-operated Detex alarms are armed.
Once the building has been evacuated, the FOH Manager and Captains immediately begin to pull all banks
and deposits in the checkout area, so that they may be secured before emergency lighting fails completely.
No money should be counted at this time; just secured within the vault.
Contact the electric company to gauge the length of the outage.
Contact your GM and/or ROD/ROM, Facilities and Risk Management.
Game Plan with KM for icing down procedures and sealing off the refrigeration units; ensure that all
refrigeration units are locked down.
Ensure that the KM has contacted a refrigeration truck rental company and reserves a truck in case of an
expected long outage. Also have them contact your local food distributor. They might be able to secure a
truck at no cost.
Have KM contact the walk-in refrigeration repair service to have them on standby once the power has been
restored due to the possibility of equipment failure.
Ensure KM is instructing people to clean as much as possible, and continue to ice down as many products
as possible before the emergency lighting fails and the heat begins to rise.
At this point all Team Members in the building should be instructed to clean and reset their respected
areas for the next day of business. Timing is critical because emergency lighting does not last long.
Once all Team Members are in the dining room, a list should be dispersed so that all Team Members will
be accurately punched in and out at the time of the power outage. Once everyone is in the Dining Room, a
Manager and two Captains should walk the building to ensure that all Team Members are in the Dining
Room.
