Portuguese Beans

                 Amount  Measure       Ingredient -- Preparation Method

                 1                can  pork and beans -- (53 oz)
                 2             sticks  linguica -- thinly sliced
                 1                 lg  red onion -- diced
                 2                tsp  cumin
                 1                tsp  allspice
                 2               tbsp  vinegar
                 3               tbsp  brown sugar -- or more

               In pan add beans, spices, vinegar & sugar.  Brown onion until soft, add to
               beans.  Cook linguica slow covered, add drippings to beans then increase
               heat and cook linguica until done. Add linguica and remaining drippings to
               beans.  Cook 1/2 hour.

               NOTES : Tedra gave me this recipe years ago.  I have made it many
                       times.  It is one of my favorite bean recipes. I think it
                       is the combination linguica and cumin that makes it so
                       good. --ch
