Background: Better quality of life outcomes after the procedure of convention,
navigation-assisted or mini-open transpedicular screw fixation (TPSF) in lumbar
spendylolisthesis (LS) remain a debatable issue.
Objective: To compare preoperative and postoperative quality-of-life
outcomes of patients diagnosed with LS nonresponsive to conservative
treatment who underwent surgery with these different techniques.
Methods: We performed a prospective cohort study of 60 patients receiving
conventional TPSF or navigation-assisted TPSF or mini-open TPSF in LS at
Prasat Neurological Institute between 2010 and 2012. During the 12-month
follow-up period, patients were interviewed regarding social life, mental health,
functional capacity or an independent living status. The quality-of-life (QOL)
measurement was determined using Oswetry Disability Index (ODI) and the
Short Form -36 Health Survey (SF36).
Results: According to ODI, navigation-assisted group had significant level of
faster recovery than mini-open group at 1 week (P=0.034) and 1 month
