cascading pine trees. The ultra-modern technology-inclined mansion includes a
bowling alley and a family-size movie theatre.
Alonzo pulls up to the paved driveway. A fountain with water -- spraying
upwards from spouts in the center of the basin's pool -- welcomes all guests. “Wow.
Mr. McDaniel spared no expense,” he says to self as he takes another look. He kills
the ignition, reaches for and turns his smartphone to vibrate; then opens the door.
He steps down from his Jeep, and stares in amazement at the huge structure
that stands in front of him -- lofty and daunting. He steps in the direction of the MAIN
ENTRANCE. A red paving stone walkway -- from the fountain base -- to the robust
and solidly crafted dark mahogany double doors. Restrain lanterns paved along the
walkway provide fairy lights in the dark. He rings the doorbell, listens, and waits.
A well-mannered ADA VELEZ, 61, Latina, and personal assistant to Mrs.
McDaniel answers. “Good evening, Mr. Thomas. I'm Mrs. Velez.
“Hello, Mrs. Velez. It’s nice to make your acquaintance.”
“Same here, Mr. Thomas,” she welcomes and invites him inside.
Inside the mansion, “Welcome to McDaniel's residence.”
“Thank you,” hands a bottle of wine to Mrs. Velez. “I hope it is to
Mrs. McDaniel's taste.”
She takes the bottle from him, “I'm sure, it would be to her satisfaction.” She
gives him a stamp of approval with a nod and a smile. “Some refreshments,
Mr. Thomas ...” With the bottle in her left hand, Mrs. Velez turns, and ushers him
