                                   The Barrs Bowls Club staged the final session of their Annual  Licensed
                                   Competition for the Barrs Perpetual Trophy, St. Finbarrs GAA Club Pavillion.
                                   The Tournament was once again a great success with a large entry of 282
                                   bowlers in 94 Teams in action over the six days of the tournament
                                   At the Quarter-final stage Ballincollig GAA led by skip Jerry O’Donoghue
                                   beat Glounthaune, J. McCarthy, J. Geary & D. West: Watergrasshill,  S.
                                   O’Riordan, beat Douglas GAA’s N. Kelleher, M. O’Neill & B. Kenneally: Led

                                   way with victory over Barrs R. Murphy, T. Healy & P. Barry. Also making the
           final, Jerry O’Donoghue team beat Watergrasshill’s J. O’Riordan, M. O’Connell & S. O’Riordan.
                 In the final Ballincollig’s Eithna Linehan, Denis O’Mahony & Jerry O’Donoghue started well
           with an opening three and followed this up with a single to lead 4 - 0. Not to be outdone the
           Crosshaven triple of Keith Middleton, Grainne Murphy & Conor Middleton struck back with a single
           and followed this up with a four to lead 5 - 4. The next end was a no scoring end and this was fol-
           lowed up with a two to Crosshaven who now led 7 - 4. An exchange of singles left Ballincollig GAA
           looking for a three for a draw or four for a win on the final end but in the end they only managed
           a two to leave Crosshaven 8 - 7 victors.
                 The individual prizes were presented  by Eddie Mills, the Barrs Club Captain, who also pre-
           sented the Perpetual Trophy to Conor Middleton, the Skip of the winning team. The Umpires on
           duty for the final session were Marie O’Leary, Eddie Mills, Hazel Payne, Hazel Foley & Tim Murphy.

           St Vincent’s  Bowls Club Staged their Annual Licensed Triples Competition for the Rev. Fr. Jack
           Cleary Perpetual Trophy was held in the Blarney Street School Hall and ran over a seven day
           period. The competition was well supported  with an entry of 240 players in eighty teams and re-
           sulted in a victory for Glounthaune, who defeated Douglas Community School in the final played
           over nine ends after a very close and exciting match.
                 Quarter-finals Glounthaune’s Liam O’Connell, Tony O’Shea  & Joe Kirby beat Crosshaven’s
           Mary, Keith & Conor Middleton), “The Hut” trio of Billy and Ger Fitton & Dermot O’Connell beat
           Watergrasshill’s Ann Casey, Majella & Liam Conlon. The Lower Aghada team of  Tony Carlisle,
           Liam Hickey & Tom Prendergast beat Wilton’s Kay McCarthy, Neil O’Keeffee & Pat McCarthy.
           Completing the round Douglas Community School’s Sheila O’Driscoll, Mary Boland & John O’-
           Driscoll beat Cathedral Parish’s Muriel Doolan, Nora Dunphy & Rose Moore.
                 In the semi-finals Glounthaune got the better of “The Hut”, whilst the Douglas Community
           School made it to the final with victory over  Lower Aghada and all was setup for a great final.
                 In the final, Glounthaune struck first with a two and a single. Douglas Community School
           replied with a single only for Glounthane to reply with two singles for 5 - 1 lead. A two and a single
           closed the gap to 5 -4 for D.C.S. who were back in the game. However, a two to Glounthane in-
           creased their lead to 7 - 4. So D.C.S needed a last end three for a draw and a four to win but in
           the end they could only manage a single to leave Liam O’Connell, Tony O’Shea  & Joe Kirby as 7
           - 5 Champions for Glounthane.
