P. 12
You go down to a cluster of houses and go down to number 20, the old house. The little old house
isn’t perfect compared to the other houses but it is important to me. It is made of stone, brick and
metal. My name is Stella, I am 8 years old and this is my place. I live with my mum, my dad
and Pat, my younger brother. Pat likes to collect fossils.
I have one beehive at home. I get honey from it by
extracting the bee frames, then we let all the honey
drip into a sieve because we don’t like all the wax in it. I’ve eaten
wax once and it’s not the best thing in the world.
I live in a country town and it only
has a few shops and a lot of
community hubs and things. So I
don’t know much city stuff at all. I
go to a little school, only 7 kids and
my teacher. I am the only grade
three student.
When schools shut down, I had to
learn at home. I could not get
soymilk or gluten free food.
Everything moved online. I was
scared, sad, mad and angry. I
wanted to hide. My dad took me
out of school early because he
was scared.
My neighbours had to lock down
the most because they are old.
We helped them by giving them
food when times were tough.
Even though it is not over yet, I
think we can get through this time.
Since COVID 19, I have been
playing in my big old plum tree that
is nearly dead. I spent a lot of time
in my bedroom reading, writing
and playing with Lego. I also play
with my dogs. I love my dogs, they
are Jack Russells.
I made new friends along the way like you and lost some too. We rang loved ones and friends,
sometimes it was the only way to keep in touch.
Sometimes I look up or down and think about who lived in my house before I lived here. Now
we are allowed out we can be thankful that it was part of my life.
