Sixty Years of China - Sri Lanka Relations
1957-2017
The China-Sri Lanka Relations Publication Project was a collaborative
initiative between the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China in Sri Lanka
and the Bandaranaike Center for International Studies. The project was
th
initiated to mark the 60 anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the
Peoples Republic of China and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
George I. H. Cooke, Deputy Director of the BCIS, Dr. Lakmal Mihiri Senanayake,
Programme Of icer of the Research Coordination Division, BCIS, Shiran
Fernando, Chief Economist at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and Head of
the Economic Intelligence Unit, Dr. Chulanee Attanayake, Director Research at
Institute of National Security Studies Sri Lanka, Shalika Dias, BCIS Junior
Research Associate and Senuri Samalka Samarasinghe, BCIS Junior Research
Associate contributed chapters on diplomatic relations, social relations,
religious & cultural relations, economic relations and strategic relations
between the two countries. Dr. Jayanath Colombage and Ambassador Nihal
Rodrigo were consultants of the project and scripted the preface and the
conclusion of the book. The objective of the project was to produce an
academic and research publication on diplomatic, social, religious, cultural,
economic, and strategic relations between China and Sri Lanka.
Blue Economy: Prospects and Challenges
for Sri Lanka
The BCIS launched its seminar publication on 'Blue Economy: Prospects and
Challenges for Sri Lanka' at the International Relations Convocation 2018 on
22ⁿ March 2017.
Dr. Harinda Vidanage presented the irst copy of the book to Hon. Ranil
Wickremesinghe, M.P, Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of
Sri Lanka at the Annual Convocation.
The publication, which was edited by George Cooke, Deputy Director/ BCIS, is
a compilation of the speeches of all Chairpersons and Speakers of the BCIS
seminar.
Britain through Brexit: Past, Present and
Future
The Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) launched its second
issue of the Monograph Series in January 2018.
'Britain through Brexit: Past, Present and Future' was co-authored by George
Cooke and Isuri Siriwardhana. The Monograph focuses on Britain political
scenario against the backdrop of Brexit.
It covers issues pertaining to crisis of representative democracy in Britain,
newly emerged trends in Britain with the 2017 Parliamentary election, as well
as the manner in which Brexit impacts sovereignty in Britain and issues
arising over the safeguarding of sovereignty in Scotland.
