Cultural Cross Currents
The Cultural Cross Currents (CCC) series which was started in 2017 is a new a platform at the BCIS for
writers, actors, directors, producers, dramatists, dancers, cinematographers and a wide spectrum of
people involved in the arts, to highlight their experiences and discuss their respective ields.
The third Cultural Cross Currents
session was held on 23 January
2018 with international award
winning director and producer,
Chandran Rutnam who shared his
experiences in the ilm industry,
challenges in ilm making in Sri Lanka
and the potential of the sphere.
Scenes from many of his ilms were
screened during the CCC session and
generated an enthusiastic discussion.
International Mother Language Day
was marked at the CCC session on
27 February 2018 under the theme
‘Unifying Force of Language’.
H. E. Riaz Hamidullah, High
Commissioner of Bangladesh, H. E. I.
Gusti Ngurah Ardiyasa, Ambassador
of Indonesia and Francis Cappe,
Director of the Alliance Francaise de
Kotte spoke on the relevance of
preserving language.
A special screening of the ilm ‘The
Red Mustang’ took place at the CCC
session on 03 April 2018. It
included a conversation with its
director, Rehan Mudannayake.
The ilm which explores issues
concerning women, society,
empowerment and harassment in
the workplace.
