16. Adjusting Route Preferences
“Up here in Alaska I drive a 2006 Escalade. There are some roads around here that are
completely closed to traffic for several months in the winter because of the risk of
avalanche. My Nav system wants to route me through there when I can’t go. What can I
do about this?”
The agent should select the Navigation System Cadillac Escalade Step-by-Step
Information document and move to Section 1.5 Other Nav Features> 1.5.2 Adjusting
Route Preferences and explain how to allow the system to use time-restricted and
seasonal roads when calculating a planned route.

17. Database Coverage

“Hi, I’m ok. I’m driving along in my 2008 Enclave, following the route on my navigation
system and all of a sudden I’m not seeing the streets” with as much detail as I used to a
minute ago. Is my Nav system going to get lost in the trees out here?
The agent should search for the 2008 Enclave manual, then go to Features and Controls>
Database Coverage Explanations.
The answer is: No your navigation system is working correctly. “Coverage areas vary with
respect to the level of map detail available for any given area. Some areas will feature
greater levels of detail than others. If this happens, it does not mean there is a problem
with the system. As the map DVD is updated, more detail may become available for areas
which previously had limited detail.”

18. Heading Up Mode
“Hello, I have been using my navigation system in my 2006 Terraza for the last three
months without difficulty. However, I notice that when I turn the map stays in the same
orientation. It seems to me that it would be a good idea if the map rotated so it showed the
direction you are driving in. My sister-in-law’s Ford can do this.”
The agent should search for the 2006 Terraza manual, then go to Features and Controls>
Using the Navigation System> Map Appearance and explain setting the map appearance
to “Heading up” mode.

19. Add Waypoint
“Hi, I’m going to visit . . . well, I want to pick up a bottle of wine before I get there. Is there
some way I can adjust my route to take me to some place I can buy a medium priced dry
red? I drive a 2007 Sierra Denali”

The agent should search for the 2007 Sierra Denali manual and go to Destination> Add
Waypoint. Then explain how to add a way point and describe how this can be done using
the Point Of Interest method.
