The Healthy Company
In the following, the focus is on the aspects that are relevant for
the matching concept.
Combat stress-promoting thought and behavior patterns
The tool can be used to identify the individual stressors and
burdensome situations that prevent people from achieving top
performance. But statements about the cognitive and emotional
inner drivers are also possible. Cognitive inner drivers are thought
to be stress-promoting thought patterns such as "must think",
"catastrophize" (meaning to paint the black), "frustration intolerance"
and "globalization". These thought patterns lead to stress-promoting
misconceptions. In must-think, for example, an employee cannot
move away from an idea or expectation once it has been set, so
that he makes absolute demands on himself and others. Must-think
allows little or no shades of gray or in-between, but demands
absoluteness, perfection and black-and-white thinking.
With emotional inner drivers, beliefs or behavior patterns such
as "Be perfect!", "Be strong!", "Be pleasing!" play a role,
"Hurry up!" and "Make an effort" play a role. The problem is that
these emotional drivers, internalized in the form of commands,
often lead to employees causing themselves stress because they
believe they have to obey their inner drivers at all costs.
The patterns of thinking and behavior that promote stress, as well
as the inadequate sense-making, prevent the building of resilience
and resistance. By revealing the existence of these patterns,
RELIEF opens up the possibility for decision-makers in the
company to offer people support in preventing stress and burnout.
This is because the tool points out coping strategies in relation to
the problematic areas of action, which show in which areas a
change is necessary.
