Corruption of Bribery
Chapter 6 : Corruption in the “Carbon World”
Requests for information from the New Zealand National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA)
were denied and eventually ended up in the High Court. NIWA’s supposed national records had been eulogised
by the IPCCC as the gold standard that conclusively proved the case for global warming in the Southern
Hemisphere. However, when push came to shove , NIWA’s lawyers denied that it was responsible for maintaining
the national database claiming that such records as were available were “only intended for internal research
purposes and not as evidence to prove that the country had warmed due to emissions of carbon dioxide”. NIWA
claimed to have lost or destroyed most of the relevant data. The original Kiwi records showed no warming during
the 20th century but after “treatment” by sponsored climatologists a warming trend of 1°C appeared.
Professor Jones was criticised for understating the effects of the Urban Heat Island Effect in a peer reviewed
paper based partly on “research” by Professor Wei‐Chyung‐Wang of the University of Albany. Data for many of
the 84 weather stations in East China – for the period 1954 to 1983 ‐ used to justify Professor Jones’s figures were
suspect, could not be validated or had been “lost”. The effect was to show temperature rises higher than justified.
Unsurprisingly, the universities cleared everyone of malpractice.
8.7.3 Proxy Records
As mentioned earlier, land temperature records based on thermometer readings were not
81
available until the late 1860 s and climatologists who needed to work on measurements before
that date had to find alternative sources. These "proxies" include tree rings, ice cores, lake
sediments and corals; with tree rings (dendrochronology) being favoured by IPCC authors,
HADCRU and GISS.
The theory behind dendrochronology is that the growth of trees ‐ and thus the distance between
82
83
their "rings " ‐is primarily determined by temperature . Thus, again in theory, by measuring the
width of each "ring" an annual record can be obtained to an accuracy of +/‐0.1F!!! Some trees are
thousands of years old.
This is the theory, but you do not need to be Robin Hood, David Bellamy or David Attenborough
to know that trees do not work that way:
Growth rings are only laid during the growing season, not the whole year so they say
nothing about winter or annual temperatures
at best they can only give an indication of average annual temperatures and not monthly
variations
it is difficult (if not impossible) to link growth to an absolute temperature
trees do not grow at night (since photosynthesis only occurs during daylight hours)
growth is influenced by factors other than temperature such as rainfall or fertilisation.
trees only grow on land while 71% of the Earth surface consists of oceans and lakes that
have no trees
81 Mercury thermometers were invented in 1714 and not widely used until 90 years later
82 Which grow at the rate of one layer per annum
83 Common sense suggests, rainfall, albedo coverage, fertilisation etc are also influential
