Payroll processing is key and errors leads to wide
impact because it impacts not only the employee but
also his family, and his work gets impacted thereby
impacting the customer as well. Therefore it was very
important that there could be no errors in processing payroll
information. This is what was behind her mind when Purva decided to
pick up a project on payroll processing.

She knew that the problem was not huge and that the root causes were easily
identifiable so she went the PDCA way. There was a fishbone done and RCs
identified. Post this she went on to solution for the major problem areas by providing
some easy mistake proofing solutions and refresher trainings etc.

Creation of a good Knowledge portal also helped the employees by providing them with a
quick referral point along with a FAQ site. Thus by using some easy people heavy investment
light methodologies Purva managed to make a big difference to the way Payroll was being
processed. This helped a lot of people sleep better during those peak days of the month when the
Payroll was being done.

This time Purva spent on doing her project was a very big investment for her as she was aware
because she was a student of NIQC where she was continually encouraged to apply her learnings.
She was very thankful to this motivation which inspired her to do this project when she won a
Platinum award for the simple Kaizen she had implemented in the Payroll space.
