where we learned how to break dance. In July, I went to Montreat, North Carolina for the week-long Youth
Conference, an assembly attended by 600-900 youth. I learned about and celebrate the love of Jesus Christ
through small group study, worship and recreation. Near the end of my time there, I was especially humbled
when a group of young people I had befriended, from St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Hemingway, S.C., told
me I had inspired them and their music ministry. A visit to Bethany Community Church in St. Catherines and
Crieff Hills Community in Jubilee was another inspiring and refreshing avenue for youth resource. In the fall, I
also had the opportunity to meet and sit down with the Canada Youth Director, Jo Morris. Learning to her
perspective, gave me another way to look at, and understand, today’s youth. Our time together over a cup of
coffee was an extraordinary experience.
During the past few months, our Youth and Young Adults have spent time together at the table; sharing,
listening, laughing, making mushroom soup and garlic bread, lighting the Christmas candles, exchanging gifts,
helping with decorations for the Lunch Bunch and of course, music making. The seed has been sown and it is
growing slowly but surely. Praise our God!”
Cairn Camps: Trinity continued throughout 2019 to promote and support the ministry of Cairn Camps, especially
its summer camps. Cairn says of its ministry: Living within an inclusive, accepting Christian community provides
campers the feeling of safety and support that allows them to try something new, express their opinions, and
learn from each other. Our staff model this by living our mission in everything they do: “To share God’s love
through Christian camping and to ensure that its family of camps, and their leaders, provide supportive ministry
and transformative programming. We believe in the extraordinary.” Come experience the extraordinary with us
this summer! http://ilovecamp.org/summer-camp.cfm. We were delighted once more, for a sixth year in a row,
th
to welcome Cairn during the season of Advent on Sunday, December 15 as they participated in worship in song
and story during their stay over time at the Church.
th
Vacation Bible School: Camp in your own Backyard (CYOB) was held for a third year from Monday, July 8 to
th
Friday, July 12 at Trinity. CYOB 2019 especially accented the worth and purpose of each child as a child of God
and the unity found in celebrating one another as part of God’s family. The congregation is grateful for the
leadership of Coordinator Isobel Hutchison and her grandchildren. We thank Isobel and the leaders from Cairn.
Adult Bible Studies: Noreen Marshall continued her longstanding and faithful service as a gifted Bible teacher,
offering in the Spring of 2019 the Thursday afternoon Bible Study ‘Learning from Luke’. This study was a special
time to encountering God’s Word, noting: ‘Rejection of God’s Kingdom & Jesus’ Predictions of the Last days’,
‘Jesus, Our Passover Lamb’, ‘God’s Word from the Cross’, ‘God’s Word from the Empty Tomb’. Knox Theological
Field Education Student Jim MacDonald presented the Bible study ‘A Closer Look’ (from Acts), noting ‘Grace,’
‘The Trinity,’ ‘Trinity Church,’ ‘Jesus,’ and ‘Goodwill’. Trinity thanks Noreen and Jim for all their time and effort
to help us grow in our knowledge of and love for God.
