Page 36 - Failure to Triumph - Journey of A Student
P. 36
Many a time I have seen that parents put a lot of pressure on their
children to pursue government jobs. Well, there is nothing wrong in
that, but what you should also understand is that today’s world is the
world of new possibilities. Both, government and private sector jobs
are progressive in the contemporary world, and it is a fact that, the
private sector has more growth opportunities as compared to the
government sector. You may feel that private sector has no job
security, but that is not true. There are so many private companies
around us that a skillful, eligible employee has no dearth of options.
More so, if you have real talent, the company would be afraid of
losing you. Presently, there is shortage of people with sincerity, right
attitude and talent.
You do not have to think that without a government job you will not
be able to achieve anything. Some people end up burning their
entire youth in efforts to land up in a government job. You don’t have
to follow this trend blindly. However, work hard sincerely and try your
luck. But don’t get bogged down if it doesn’t happen the way you
wanted it to be. Try to do something in the private sector. The world
is all yours. Explore.
You have to ask yourself why do you need a government job? Is it
because you want to save yourself from hard work? You might have
heard about less effort and work in government jobs while growing
up. Ask yourself this question: “Am I inclined towards the
government sector just because it would be easy to work there and I
am more inclined towards a relaxed life?” Be honest with yourself.
I keep running into students from IITs and IIMs; several times I have
been there as well. These kids are very rational and hard working.
But have you seen any student from these institutes trying for a
basic government job? Never. It costs about Rs 20 lakhs to complete
a course from IIM, the student starts working in a private sector and
makes a great career. If at all the private sector is so risky, why
would there be so many MBA colleges? After studying in these
institutions your starting salary should be equal to the salary of a
near-retirement government employee. Nothing less than that.
