try to know ‘what’s wrong?’ We hold on to hopelessness and despair.
Morning blues become a huge challenge; despair and anxiety
remove the sunshine from our lives and thrust us into a world of
darkness.
Signs of depression: To be not able to focus on anything, not being
able to concentrate on something, always being nervous and afraid,
to have this fear of losing family members, a feeling of anxiety and
prolonged sadness. Suicidal thoughts are also very common in
extreme stages of depression.
One of the biggest problems with depression is that even when you
come out of it, you have lost so much time that you don’t have ample
time left for studies or for anything else. How does depression hinder
our future goals? Physical and mental health are as important to
human beings as the two wings are to a bird. A bird needs both its
wings to fly. But if the bird has only one wing, let alone flying; it will
not even be able to get off the ground. Physical and mental health
are our two wings. Physical as well as mental well-being act as a
crucial determinant of both individual happiness and prosperity.
Depression not only affects us mentally, in the longer run it adversely
impacts our physical health as well.
What causes depression? There are several clear factors that can
lead one to depression: death of a close one, breaking up with one’s
girlfriend or boyfriend, to be unsuccessful in business,
unemployment, extreme mental stress et cetera. Genetics, mental
stress, poor nutrition, lack of sleep are some other factors that can
contribute to depression. To be safe from depression, you must have
faith in God—if he has given pain, then he must have some ointment
too. At times we get angry with God and ask him, why do we have to
go through this pain? Why me? Remember what Rumi has said,
“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”
God wants you to be even better than what you were—this is why
you have to go through that pain. The pain and suffering will lead
you to light. As Oprah Winfrey has said, “you have to turn your
wounds into wisdom.”
