Presentation and Discovery:
At the coordinated time, the accessibility specialist will host an on-line conference
call using the website GoToMeeting.com. This meeting is designed to be
collaborative in nature and allows the accessibility specialist to “tell the story” of
their site visit and present their solutions to the discovered “pinch points” at the
residence. The presentation is in a Power Point format. A successful meeting
usually ends with an agreed scope of work (not authorized, just agreed) and the
authority given to proceed to phase two, assigning a contractor and obtaining an
accurate cost estimate.
• Phase Two (Contractor Assignment / Cost Estimate)
The second phase is designed to establish an appropriate and accurate cost
estimate for the project. Phase two initiates after the assigning party agrees with
the presented recommendations and scope of work, and it ends when the
assigning party has determined to either authorize the work to commence or when
the assigning party chooses another action.
Site Visit:
Once the contractor receives the assignment from DCC, they will coordinate a site
visit at the residence. The purpose of this site visit is to inspect the residence
structurally, ensure accuracy of measurements, identify any peculiarities (code
issues, structural abnormalities etc.) and to establish a report’ with the family.
Estimate:
Following the site visit the contractor will create a line item estimate reflecting the
agreed scope of work. DCC requires contractors to submit line item estimates and
strongly encourages them to use the Xactimate estimating system. (Xactimate is
the primary estimating system utilized by property adjusters to establish
reasonable pricing for property insurance claims)
