Local Services
Shops and Supermarkets
There are 2 shopping centres at the entrance to Quinta do Lago at the “Q” roundabout,
which is the first roundabout with the fountain and “Q” logo.
Quinta Shopping
This elegant shopping mall which you can see at
the “Q” roundabout contains an up market
selection of fashion boutiques, shoe and sports
goods shops, jewellers, cafes, restaurants and
bars including an Irish bar and a British Pub. Fresh
bread and patisserie to take away can be
purchased at the French bakery. There is also a
newsagents where English paper are delivered
usually by 11 a.m but some are printed in Spain
so the coverage is more limited than those printed
in England. The shops are open from 9.30 a.m.
until late 7 days a week.
Bougainvillea Plaza
This is the second, older, shopping centre situated behind Quinta Shopping on the road
to Vale do Lobo. Although it started out as a mixed shopping centre the front line of
shops is now mainly estate agents but don’t let this put you off. Behind the front line you
will find a good selection of shops and restaurants including a gift shop, pizzeria,
jewellers, children’s cloth store, hairdressers and, most importantly, the largest nearest
supermarket, Pingo Doce, and a bank with cash points. Opening hours are from 9.30
a.m.
Supermarkets
There is a small supermarket at the Vilar do Golf resort which is situated just off
roundabout 4 of the Avenida Andre Jordan. It is open 7 days a week from 8am-8pm
There is a larger Pingo Doce supermarket at the Bougainvillea shopping centre at the
entrance to Quinta do Lago but it is not as large as their store in Almancil. The best
supermarket, if you are looking for the widest selection of British and continental foods
and drinks, is Apolonia which is situated on the western side of Almancil. It is not cheap
but the quality and range is excellent. Opens every day: 8am - 8pm. Bank Holidays: 8am
- 1pm.
There is a main branch of the Pingo Doce supermarket chain, just off the main road at
the western end of Almancil which has excellent fish and meat counters and is more
reasonably priced than Apolonia. If you are a budget supermarket shopper there is an
Aldi in Almancil and a Lidl in Loule and Quarteira which have excellent German products.
Shopping Centres
There are now three large shopping centres in the Algarve within easy reach of Quinta do
Lago. The latest is the Mar Shopping Centre near Loule which is about 20 minutes away.
The Guia Centre is to the west about 35 minutes from Quinta do Lago, where, as well as
the Centre, you will also find factory outlets and other stores. The third is the Forum
Algarve which is about 25 minutes east of Quinta do Lago, past the airport turn, just as
you reach the outskirts of Faro.
