Glossary 50
A documented plan developed by a manager and their direct report to address challenges
when an employee is not meeting expectations. The plan explains where expectations are
not being met, actions to be taken to address challenges, a timeline, and next steps. PIPs
are a confidential part of an employee’s personnel file.
Performance, Planning & Assessment Tool (PPA)
Tool used to capture and manage performance goals and build individual development
plans for Biogen employees.
Period
A financial reporting time frame (e.g., each month is a period)
Permanent (PERM)
Permanent employees are future planned positions outside of the Brass Ring system
Personal Information Protection Approval (PIPA)
Protected subject medical and health information (Canadian term)
Personal Performance Assessment (PPA)
An employee's assessment of what they accomplished through goals and how well they
demonstrated core behaviors while doing so.
Pharmaceutical Operations & Technology (PO&T)
Department at Biogen responsible for manufacturing, supplying, and the logistics for all
clinical and commercial drugs.
Pharmacodynamics (PD)
How a drug responds in the body
Pharmacogenetics (PG)
How genetics affect a drug's pharmacokinetics or pharmacodynamics
Pharmacokinetics (PK)
How the body responds to drug with regard to disposition
Plan of Action (POA)
