WISDOM AND SOUND ADVICE FROM THE TORAH
You warned them to re turn to Your law, but they be came ar -
ro gant and dis o beyed Your com mands. They sinned against
Your or di nan ces, by which a man will live if he obeys them.
Stubbornly they turned their backs on You, be came stiff-
necked and re fused to lis ten. (Nehemiah, 9:29)
To the ar ro gant I say, "Boast no more," and to the wick ed, "Do
not lift up your horns. Do not lift your horns... do not speak
with out stretched neck." No one from the east or the west or
from the desert can ex alt a man. But it is God Who judg es: He
brings one down, He ex alts an oth er. (Psalms, 75:4-7)
Whoever slan ders his neigh bor in se cret, him will I put to si -
lence; who ev er has haugh ty eyes and a proud heart, him will
I not en dure. (Psalms, 101:5)
My heart is not proud, O Lord, my eyes
are not haugh ty... (Psalms, 131:1)
The proud and ar ro gant man—
"Mocker" is his name; he be -
haves with over ween ing pride.
(Proverbs, 21:24)
Do not keep talking
so proudly or let your
mouth speak such ar-
rogance, for the Lord
is a God Who knows,
and by Him deeds are
weighed. (1 Samuel,
2:3)
