WISDOM AND SOUND ADVICE FROM THE TORAH






                     An an gry man stirs up dis sen sion, and a hot-tem pered one
                     com mits many sins. A man's pride brings him low, but a man
                     of low ly spir it gains hon or. (Proverbs, 29:22-23)

                     For this is what the high and lofty One says, He Who lives for -
                     ev er, Whose name is ho ly: "I am with him who is con trite and
                     low ly in spir it, to re vive the spir it of the low ly." (Isaiah, 57:15)

                     "And I hate a man's cov er ing him self with vi o lence as well
                     as with his gar ment," says the Lord Almighty. So guard your -

                     self in your spir it, and do not break faith. (Malachi, 2:16)

                     There are six things the Lord hates, sev en that are de test a ble to
                     Him: haugh ty eyes, a ly ing tongue, hands that shed in no cent
                     blood, a heart that de vis es wick ed schemes, feet that are quick
                     to rush in to evil, a false wit ness who pours out lies and a man
                     who stirs up dis sen sion among broth ers. (Proverbs, 6:16-19)


                     Be cause I will re move from this city those who re joice in their
                     pride. Never again you will be haugh ty... But I will leave
                     with in you the meek and hum ble, who trust in the name of
                     the Lord. (Zephaniah, 3:11-12)

                     To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and ar ro gance,
                     evil be hav ior and per verse speech. (Proverbs, 8:13)

                     Pride on ly breeds quar rels, but wis dom is found in those
                     who take ad vice. (Proverbs, 13:10)


                     They have no strug gles; their bod ies are healthy and strong.
                     They are free from the bur dens com mon to man; they are not
                     plagued by hu man ills. Therefore pride is their neck lace;
                     they clothe them selves with vi o lence. From their cal lous
                     hearts comes in iq ui ty; the evil con ceits of their minds know
