If it’s in the northern part of the town, make your way to the A40, the Northern By-pass. Follow it to
the Headington Roundabout. The road notes continue from there

In the southern suburbs head to the A4124, the Eastern By-pass. Follow it to the i/section with the
A40 at the Headington Roundabout.

From the centre of town: Take High St the A420. Immediately after crossing the river you will
come up to a grassed r/bout with a large tree in the middle. Bear left. On the road surface is the
word “Head’tn”. Follow that on to St Clement St.

Expert Navigator Checkpoint: Just after that you will pass the “Half Moon” pub on your l.

Continue to follow the A420 along Headington Rd and London Rd to its junction with the A40 at
Headington Roundabout

At Headington Roundabout take the exit s/posted “London A40 (M40)”

Follow road surface signs that say “A40 (E) / BART” and green and white signs “London A40
(M40)”.

Expert Navigator Checkpoint: In the most ludicrous juxtaposition of cultures, just after taking the
left into London Rd, over on the far side of the road there’s a McDonalds in an old half-timbered
house.

6.0 mi 51.7312, -1.0728 Merge on to the M40 s/posted “London / High Wycombe / Maidenh’d”.

If you just want the fast way to London stay on the M40 all the way.

Otherwise to take the suggested route through Windsor . . .

West Wycombe Caves and Park Tour:

8.6 mi 51.6620, -0.9175 At Junction 5 leave the M40 if you want to take the side trip to West
Wycombe (see side bar).

Otherwise . . .

0.3 mi 51.6111, -0.7761 At the r/bout take the 5th exit to the A404 “Reading / Slough / Marlow /
A404”.

If you took the West Wycombe side trip this is where you rejoin the road notes.

Take the 2nd exit from the r/bout after crossing a bridge over the M40. Follow road top signs
“A404 M’LOW”

10.2 mi 51.4998, -0.7231 Take the 2nd exit from the r/bout to merge on to the M4.
