WORK WEEK AND HOURS OF WORK
The normal workweek at Police FCU’s Upper Marlboro, Maryland location is based on an eight-hour
day, five-day workweek. Though duties of positions may require slightly different schedules, the core
office hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday and will generally include a one-hour
paid lunch break. Each employee’s work schedule will be discussed and verified prior to hire, but are
subject to change if reassigned to a different branch or position within the Credit Union.
Core office hours for the Academy Branch are 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM with a 30-minute paid lunch break.
Hours for the District of Columbia location are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, and will generally include a one-
hour, paid lunch break.
LUNCH AND BREAK TIME
The lunch break will consist of a one-hour paid lunch break. The one-hour paid lunch break is a benefit
to provide a short rest and relaxation period during the workday. It is not a flexible alternative hour
to be used to make up time for an employee’s lateness and/or an excuse to skip lunch to leave early.
Typically, lunch breaks should be taken between the hours of 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM. Because this time
is paid, a Supervisor may request that an employee shorten or even interrupt a lunch break during a
period of particularly high workload and/or short staffing occurrences.
As working adults, everyone must be aware that time away from the job equates to a loss of
productivity; therefore, employees are reminded not to take unnecessary breaks and to use their time
away from the desk efficiently. Abuse of break times will not be tolerated. It is especially important
for Receptionists, Tellers, Member Services, Call Center, and Loan Representatives to coordinate
lunch time and breaks with their Supervisor daily to ensure adequate coverage.
TIME RECORDS AND LEAVE OF ABSENCE
Reliable, consistent attendance is an essential element to delivering exceptional service to members.
Employees are expected to be punctual and dependable to meet the needs of their department and
the Credit Union. When employees take an unscheduled leave of absence or are tardy, the delivery of
services is oftentimes adversely affected and can be an additional burden on colleagues. Attendance
and reliability are important factors in evaluating individual performance and continued employment.
All employees must follow assigned protocol established by their Supervisor when altering their
standard work hours.
