Similarly, we provide internet access for business purposes. We do not prohibit use of our internet
access for personal use, but strongly discourage doing so during working hours. Whenever using
email or the internet, good network etiquette or “netiquette” must be observed. Email and the
internet may not be used in a manner that is offensive to others. Vulgar language or displays of nudity
or sexually explicit images or cartoons are strictly prohibited.
Authorized individuals within Police FCU may monitor equipment, systems, and network traffic at any
time. Police FCU reserves the right to audit networks and systems on a periodic basis to ensure
compliance with the Information Security Policies and the best interests of the Credit Union. As with
our telephone system, no employee should have any expectation of privacy regarding emails or any
other activity using Police FCU computers.
Employees of Police FCU are prohibited from engaging in any activity that is illegal under local, state,
federal or international law while utilizing Police FCU’s owned resources. Such activity will be cause
for immediate employment termination.
Personal Use of PCs
Personal use of PCs is allowed under the following circumstances:
a. Personal use does not negatively impact your productivity or the productivity of other
employees.
b. Personal use does not use excessive Internet bandwidth during work hours. This includes
listening to RealAudio, downloading music from iTunes, etc.
c. Personal files are not stored on network drives (such as your F: drive or the V: drive)
d. Personal use does not affect the stability of your PC, requiring IT support.
e. Use does not pertain to personal business activities not related to Police FCU research or work.
Acceptable: using a PC to write a speech on your area of expertise in which you receive
honoraria. Not acceptable: day trading, moonlighting, etc.
Although our firewall is set to prevent this, PCs should never be configured to act as a server. This
would include personal web server, music-sharing server, FTP server, game server, etc.
Server Accounts
Credit Union staff should use only their own personal network accounts unless approved by that
account holder and coordinated with the IT staff (i.e. users shall not log on to systems using another’s
username and password except on specific request). The person holding an account is responsible
for its use at all times. For example, MSR Jeff leaves for a month-long vacation and the Credit Union
hires a temp. The temp is NOT allowed to use Jeff's account -- IT will create a new account for the
temp. If that temp did have Jeff's login information, he could access our network at any time from
any location via Terminal Server and have full access to the Credit Union network (even months after
he left).
