Hiring of Relatives
The employment of relatives in the same work area may cause serious conflicts and problems
with favoritism and employee morale. In addition to claims of partiality in treatment at work,
personal conflicts from outside the work environment can be carried into day-to-day working
relationships.
Relatives of persons currently employed by NWF may be hired only if they will not be placed
where the employee and a relative will have the same supervisor or manager. In addition, no
employee will be placed in a position where he or she will report directly or indirectly to a
relative. NWF employees cannot be transferred into such a reporting relationship.
If the relative relationship is established after employment, the individuals concerned will
initially be given the opportunity to decide who is to be transferred or terminated. If that
decision is not made within 30 calendar days, management will decide.
In other cases where a conflict or the potential for conflict arises, even if there is no
supervisory relationship involved, the parties may be separated by reassignment or may be
terminated from employment.
For the purposes of this policy, the term "relative" means an employee's spouse and any other
person related to the employee, by blood, adoption or by marriage, including parents,
grandparents, sisters, brothers, children, or other family members living in the same
household, and persons living with an NWF employee under circumstances that resemble
marriage.
Employment Applications
NWF relies upon the accuracy of information contained in the employment application, as well
as the accuracy of other data presented throughout the hiring process and employment. Any
willful misrepresentations, falsifications, or material omissions in any of this information or
data will result in NWF's exclusion of the individual from further consideration for employment
or, if the person has been hired, termination of employment.
The National Wildlife Federation accepts resumes for vacant positions only. Because of the
volume of resumes we receive for current vacancies, we regret we are unable to accept
resumes for positions which might become available in the future. Individuals who submit an
unsolicited resume are referred to current openings on the Internet.
Employee Referral
The National Wildlife Federation is always looking for good people, and you can help.
Research has shown, and our own experience supports, that new hires who come into an
organization through employee referrals are excellent contributors, stay with the company
longer and are a more cost effective recruit.
