CULTURAL DIPLOM ACY
Cultural diplomacy has a vital role to play in international relations. Cult ure
provides a unique plat form for fost ering mut ual underst anding and
relat ionship-building. SIF?s cultural and educational programmes including
visits, dialogues, exchanges, and residences have to-date generated a net work
of at least 4,700 FOS.
The SIF will work collaborat ively wit h inst it ut ions such as t he Minist ry of Cult ure, Communit y
and Yout h, Nat ional Art s Council, Nat ional Yout h Council, Brit ish Council, Yayasan Bright
Foundat ion, Nalandaway Foundat ion, Shanghai People?s Associat ion for Friendship wit h Foreign
Count ries, Viet nam-Singapore Friendship Associat ion and other organisations that strengthen
Singapore?s reputation as a creative, culturally vibrant and socially innovative nation.
Moving forward, SIF programmes will promote Singapore?s caring and creative attributes through:
?Art s for Good? ? we will strengthen our unique platform in
cultural relations that leverages t he art s t o bring about
posit ive social change. This complements the efforts of
other national cultural institutions which promote Singapore
arts as an end in itself.
Our pilot Art s for Good (A4G) Fellowship has grown a
net work of 61 Fellows from 17 nat ionalit ies comprising
art ist s, policy makers, administ rat ors and programmers
in t he social sect or. Beyond this, the fellowship has
generated connections with more than 120 st akeholders
which contribute to the growing arts for good ecosystem.
We will continue to build a network of A4G Fellows in our
focus markets and posit ion Singapore as a t hought leader
in galvanising great er communit y involvement in
sust ainable change t hrough art s and cult ure. We will also
tap on the networks formed for opportunities to feed into
other programme units and, in the process, foster
re-engagement with the Fellows.
In markets that are less receptive to development assistance
programmes (e.g. Malaysia), CE will step up cultural
collaborations to build cross-border ties. An example is
3
CausewayEXchange.
The ASEAN Yout h Fellowship (AYF) is an exclusive leadership
development programme to grow and connect emerging
ASEAN leaders who can influence positive change in the
region. Themed ?Innovation for One ASEAN Future?, the
inaugural AYF commemorated Singapore?s chairmanship of
ASEAN in 2018. SIF will continue to partner the National Youth
Council to cultivate a net work of aspiring young ASEAN
leaders in t he social innovat ion space.
3 CausewayEXchange (CEX) provides an annual platform for artistic and cultural exchange between Singapore and Malaysia. To
date, CEX remains the only regular platform for cross-cultural exchange which alternates between Singapore and Malaysia and
with an arts and healing component.
