BEYOND BASICS

In 1969, Dan (before he became Super Dan) Anderson and I fought
at the Seattle Open as Brown/Red Belts for 3 Place… I lost that

The deflection hand can start anywhere
on the shoulder line to pick up and
                                      deflect the attack.

match but gained a lifelong friend! During the years we would
share ideas and Monitoring was Dan’s Defensive System where
each hand would monitor and defend one side. The left hand
would defend against the right attack and vice versa.

Dan’s Monitoring Method became the model for a defensive
method I called Defending the Triangle.

Because I developed multiple defensive methods, Dan’s
monitoring method had to be modified to fit my fighting style. The
difference was that either hand could defend a side as you’ll see
           shortly.
