BEYOND BASICS
Monitor the centerline for attacks coming from either side or
crossing the centerline. Whichever side of the centerline the
Angling is normally used to get off-line
of an attack.
attack is on, it will be deflected to that same side. Deflect by
drawing back the hand from the centerline back to the side of
the head just outside the shoulder line.
The simplicity of the defensive triangle is that only the
centerline has to be monitored.
And just like with the Offensive Triangle, the Defensive Triangle
is used to protect against kicks as well.
This will be short and sweet as it’s
just an enumeration of Defensive
Zones and how I protect them
without going into specific details.
I defensively monitor four zones to
prevent flailing at kicks and strikes.
The On-Guard position will have
one arm naturally protecting Zone
Two. Dropping either hand works
to protect Zone Three. Raising one
hand so the elbow is no higher than
the shoulders protects Zone One. Zone Four is protected by leg
checks, blocks, and movement.
