Angle Three as the response. With a surprise attack, the Flinch
Factor will prevent a backward step, so train your response to pivot
off-line.
visualization became a primary tool for
my development
Angle Four is the same as Angle One except for a left-side attack.
Angle Five can be used for either a left or right-side attack. Step
off-line to the side and counter on the pivot.
Angle Six is a pivot to get off-line and out of the way of an
aggressive attack.
Angling will take you out of the line of fire (off-line), but you’ll want
to remain within countering range.
Originally this was a defense
against Roundhouse, Hook Kicks,
or any kick coming from the
outside in. The Side Block is like
throwing up a "wall" to protect the
entire side. Again, using a left lead
On-Guard position as reference,
the left hand moves to a downward
block position to protect from the
shoulder down with the right hand
reaches across to protect the head.
This block is also applicable on the reverse side with the arm
positions reversed as well.
