How Does Physical Activity Affect the Health of

Adolescents and what is the Role of the School?

Physical activity plays a key role in preserving and improving the health of adolescents. Regular
physical activity brings numerous physical, psychological and social benefits that are especially
important during adolescence when the body and intellect are developing rapidly. The school
as an educational institution plays a key role in the development of positive habits and a healthy
lifestyle in children and adolescents through various programs and activities. Aim: To state the
influence of sports on the health and life of adolescents and to show the role of the school in
motivating students to play sports through examples of good practice at the Vinogradska
               Nursing School.
The benefits of engaging in physical activity among young people are manifested through better
success in school, reduction of risky behaviors, increased concern for the community, increased
self-esteem and self-confidence and the development of entrepreneurship. The influence of
sports and recreation is also reflected in the better use of free time. The Vinogradska Nursing
School has 500 students and over 40 active athletes in more than 20 sports in which they record
notable sporting achievements. Most of the other students at the school play sports
recreationally. In order for the student to remain motivated to play sports during the five years
of education, it is necessary to invest the effort of all the teachers at the school.
During the first two years of education, well-designed physical and health education is
important, where the physical and health teacher plays a key role with his enthusiasm, expertise,
and support. For the next three years, teachers of vocational and general education subjects
should continuously educate students about the importance of physical activity with the aim of
better understanding the benefits of sports for physical and mental health. It is important to
create a positive school climate that promotes physical activity and sports through the
organization of school competitions and sports gatherings as a strong motivational factor.

Such events promote team spirit, healthy competition and provide students with the opportunity
to demonstrate their sports skills in front of their peers and teachers. It is also important to
recognize and reward students who excel in sports activities because praise and public
recognition contribute to a sense of achievement and worth.
The goal of sports recreation is to create positive habits, have a positive impact on health and
mood, reduce stress and reduce diseases and addictions, which is a great challenge for the
school, but also an opportunity to provide healthy growth of children and adolescents.
Therefore, schools have a unique opportunity and responsibility to motivate students to play
               sports.
Through high-quality programs of physical and health education, the organization of sports
activities, and continuous education and promotion of a healthy lifestyle, schools can
significantly contribute to the creation of positive habits among young people. Encouraging
students to engage in regular physical activity not only improves their health, but also
contributes to their overall development and success in life, and it is especially important when
