“Dan what makes you think that an apology was needed? Had you harmed this person?

Did you do anything with ill intent?”

Dan was taken aback by the line of Ron’s questions. So, he thought carefully before

replying, “No Ron, I had neither harmed this person nor did anything with ill intent.” He

paused and took a deep breath before continuing, “But it so happened that this person

misinterpreted my words and my motive as I did not describe my intent due to my own

               insecurity.”

Ron became aware of Dan’s discomfort with this conversation, but he had no choice. It

had to be taken it to its logical conclusion.

“It must have been a combination of Retrospection, Assessment and Introspection that

helped you realize that you must apologize and honestly share your insecurities to re-engage

this person. It must have been very tough.”

He did not wait for Dan’s response and continued, “My intent is not to make you

uncomfortable Dan but to help you understand a very important aspect of what we have learnt

               in the past few weeks.”

Dan was quiet and visibly anxious as Ron continued.

“You did not surrender Dan; you engaged. You did it because of your compassion for this

person. Because, neither in Control nor in Empathy you would have gone that far to expose

your insecurity or vulnerability. You were operating with selfless care and concern for this
