paused to take a deep breath. “I have spent considerable time thinking about the reasons for
such a change. I could identify 3.”
“First, quest for knowledge brought me to you, and I found a Guru.”
“A small digression may help explain what I mean -- In ancient India, teaching was a highly
respected profession and teachers were categorized; Guru being the most revered. Although
we use these words interchangeably, the Indians differentiate guru from teacher very
succinctly, and I quote – ‘the teacher gives us knowledge while the Guru gives us wisdom, the teacher
answers our questions while the Guru questions our answers, the teacher sharpens our mind while the Guru
opens our mind, the teacher takes responsibility for our growth while the Guru makes us responsible for our
growth.’ Unquote”
“You have become my Guru.” Deep gratitude and respect were clearly audible and visible
in Dan’s voice and eyes.
Ron sat fascinated and his face showed it.
“Second, your compassion drove my commitment. I am determined to learn and apply as
I cannot let down my Guru and his huge investment in me.”
“Third, you made learning simple by distilling knowledge into focused segments and easy
to understand concepts. This gave me the opportunity to seek, soak and sift, and take baby
steps in reapplication. Early wins became the inspiration for more & more reapplication. Now,
in every situation I think – how can I use my learnings here?”
