“There is another S Dan, the one that we want to avoid – ‘Store’. Knowledge, once stored,

is no longer available for sharing, and learning stops.”

“It can also go in store if the ‘Seek’ is weak, i.e. when we find that the knowledge, being

forced on us through institutional or organizational training, is either not relevant or not new.

Weak ‘Seek’ automatically results in weak ‘Soak’ that does not create enough momentum to

take it to ‘Sift’ and ‘Share’; instead, it moves to ‘Store’. Learning stops!”

“I am still somewhat confused Ron. I thought I had got it but now I am not so sure. When

I acquire knowledge, am I not learning?”

“I am glad you are still seeking.” Ron replied smiling. “Knowledge remains knowledge till

we practice and use it. We can practice only when knowledge is available to us through our

               sharing.” He paused.

“Sharing within ourselves is the process of understanding and assimilating the knowledge

that transforms it into learning. Practice can start only when it becomes our learning. And that

is when knowledge turns into wisdom.” Ron concluded.

“Our model now has Five S. Unfortunately, we cannot call it that because 5S already exists

               – The Japanese workplace organization method. So, what should we call our model? How

about The Learning Cycle?” Ron glanced at Dan inquisitively.

“Sounds good Ron. It is now clear. You are right. I spent hours understanding and

assimilating what you taught me. I was able to practice these concepts only after that. It would

otherwise have been very superficial and inconsistent.”
