Although he still did not have his answer, Dan was feeling calmer as he reached his workstation.
His mind, however, was not on work and was still reenacting the discussion with Ron. He wanted to
sit and reflect quietly. He cleared his desk quickly and walked to the parking lot.
Dan was lost in thought while driving home. His first surprising observation was that he did most
of the talking; instead of Ron answering his questions, he was answering Ron’s! He suddenly realized
that Ron does this almost all the time; he always asks simple questions and listens carefully.
‘He made me feel valued’, Dan thought. ‘I am not sure if he really needed or will actually implement my advice on
John, but it felt particularly good to be asked.’
Reaching home, Dan found that Betsy had still not returned. He made a drink and walked into his
study to debrief. He booted his laptop and started recording his observations. It took him a long time
and several iterations to finally feel satisfied.

Observations from my first meeting with Ron Falcon
1. Ron made me feel valued; he always does
a. Ron immediately stopped work as soon as I walked into his office and greeted
me like a close friend. It felt good.
b. He still remembers my likes; it felt great that my favorite coffee was brought.
c. He still remembers my family and their personal situation.
2. Ron made me comfortable that allowed me to open up. He always does.
a. It was a nice gesture to ask my advice on John. It made me feel valued and
allowed me to relax for the difficult discussion.
3. Ron did not give me any solutions or sermons. He allowed me to do most of the
talking. He listened attentively.
