“It certainly is Dan. What else?”
“Saw the impact of boss’ control on a brilliant young manager. Good news is that I was
able to retain her. Otherwise, we were heading for a significant regrettable loss, that too of a
high potential female manager. Second learning is that a challenging assignment excites people
far more than the promotion.”
“Excellent learning. People, who focus on action, will always respond this way. We will
discuss this a lot more later today. Anything else?”
“Yes Ron. The last and the biggest learning is that all 3 potential skills are a significant
opportunity for me based on my self-evaluation.”
“Don’t fret over it Dan. It is understandable. You should feel good that you have made
noticeable progress once you became aware. Hopefully, you will have more learnings today.”
“Two weeks back you asked me how it all comes together. I deferred it for a later day.
Today is that day. But before we get to that question, let us explore what brought you to me.”
Not waiting for his answer, Ron continued.
“If I recall correctly, you had told me that you were dissatisfied with your stagnation and
did not understand why some people, who are not as competent, have bypassed you and got
promoted.” “Did I summarize it correctly Dan?”
“Yes Ron, that was my original question. But I think I have already understood the reason.
It is now vividly clear to me why I have not made it so far.”
“I am glad you have understood the reasons.”
