messages – what you say, and how you act and behave; you can be living in the most expensive
mansion and driving the fanciest cars but if your words, actions and behavior portray
discontent and dissatisfaction, I doubt if people will consider you successful?”
“Ron are you saying that the amount of wealth we accumulate has no relationship to
success?”
“No Dan. I am saying that it is you who makes yourself successful or unsuccessful in the
eyes of others. Although society uses certain materialistic and monetary yardstick, to be
considered successful you must be seen to act and behave successful.”
“Ron some people constantly talk about their success. Is this what you mean?”
“No. To the contrary Dan. Mostly unsuccessful people do it; their continual reminder of
their ‘huge’ success is not for others, but for themselves. They have to do it to absolve
themselves of their failure(s)! They are bitter with themselves but it shows in their negative
attitude towards others, whom they try to undermine and bulldoze.”
“Successful people are humble and never boast of their success. They do not have to – they
exude it.”
“This is so true Ron. I am wondering how I can determine what is success for me?”
“That is a great question Dan. To understand this, we will first need to grasp an important
concept.”
“What we can control is our actions; although these actions influence it, the outcome or
result is not in our hands as several external factors affect it.”
