Dan, who was still with the previous thought, interrupted, “Sorry Ron. I have a doubt.
Appreciate if that can be clarified before we move on.” “You mentioned the difference
between assessment and retrospection. I got that but I am wondering where does
‘introspection’ fit?”
“Excellent question Dan! I should have covered it. I must warn you though that my
interpretation goes beyond and may probably be inconsistent with the traditional or the
dictionary.”
“First, both Introspection and Retrospection are intrinsic. Although both happen within,
Intro looks at or into one’s self, Retro looks at or into the past.”
“Second, Introspection inspires conquest of indecision and indiscretion, allowing us to
think clearly and act mindfully. Retrospection rues the past and degenerates into frustration
and perplexity. We can choose either as both choices are continually available to us – Intro
leads to the positive path of inspiration and action, retro to negative path of self-pity and
inaction. Does this make sense to you Dan?
“It certainly does Ron. Thanks.’
“To answer your question about the difference between Want and Need.” Dan paused for
few seconds and continued, “Want is desire, while the need is inherent. For example, food is
my need as it is essential for my survival, but my want could be a certain type of food, cooked
in a certain way.”
