and moments during processing with disk cutters was determined from the source [5], and at
processing of worm wheels according to [7].
Selection of maximum speeds
The maximum rotational speeds are used when working with carbide cutters with the
smallest tool diameter. The calculation module (by which the maximum rotational speeds were
determined) was taken equal to 0.4 mmax for a given machine. The maximum rotational speeds
of cutters are in most cases required when working with solid carbide disc cutters. Table 2
shows summary data on the power and speed parameters of the range of vertical gear hobbing
machines to select direct drives for cutters and work pieces.
Figure 4 shows the graphs of the change in the cutting force (Fz), as well as the moments
on the milling cutter Mfr and the Mst table for the most common machines in the range. It
follows from it that in the range of machine tool sizes from D1250 to D12500 mm, there is a
significant nonlinear dependence of the force and cutting moments on the size of the machine.
This is due to the non-linear dependence of the maximum modulus on the size of the machine;
the modulus grows almost half the size of the machined diameter. To implement the parameters
of Table 2, the currently manufactured Siemens motors were analyzed.

The analysis showed that machines with dimensions from D125 to D800 mm can
successfully designed with direct table and cutter drives on 1FW6 motors or 1FE1 (depending
on the required speed). Machine size The D1250 requires two motors on the cutter spindle to
provide the required torque.
Larger machines can be manufactured using special prefabricated segment motors
(similar to Höfler machines D2500 mm mod. HF2500 mm or D6500 size mod. HF6500 mm).
In the drive of the cutters of all machines of the range with a work piece diameter D of more
than 1250 mm, an intermediate reduction gear is required between the motor and the spindle
to increase the torque. A similar approach applies to horizontal gear hobbing machines. The
firm "Morena" (Kolomna) has produced 4 machines mod. 5M370F4 with a processing diameter
of 320 mm, created on the basis of mechatronic devices with direct drives of cutters and work
pieces, which have been successfully operated for several years [4]. Work was carried out to
identify the possibility of using direct drives in all horizontal gear hobbing machines of the range
in accordance with GOST 18065-91. Table 3 shows the averaged data on the power and speed
parameters of the range of machines for the selection of direct drives of the cutter and work
piece. The currently produced Siemens motors were analyzed to implement the parameters of
Table 3.
