Chapter 8 A Trip to Dorset
The summer holidays are very long, and it can be difficult for Mummies and
Daddies to spend all that time with their children. To help out, Granny and
Grandpa offered to take the gang to Dorset to stay at their friends’ cottage in
Swanage. It is a long way from their home, so it was decided to set off early
and take some things to eat on the way. Bells took responsibility for organising
the snacks to ensure no one would go hungry.
They packed all their clothes and a few toys into the back of the pickup and set
off early one Monday morning. The journey took four hours, but I am not
going to bore you with the detail but only say that everyone was very pleased
when it was over.
Buttercup Cottage is very small and not really suitable for six, so the boys
offered to sleep in the living room on the settees and then everyone else had a
bed.
Once unpacked, the gang wanted to enjoy the warm afternoon on the beach, so
they all walked down the hill to the seaside. The sea was calm and gulls circled
in the sky calling to each other and no doubt chatting about the best places to
eat.
