The gang relaxed, building sand castles and occasionally braving the chilly
water. When the sun sunk in the sky and the air cooled they packed up their
things and walked back up the hill to the cottage.

Granny prepared a meal of pizza and chips followed by one of her fruit pies
with ice cream. When they had finished, it was story time and then off to bed.

The next day, after a large breakfast, everyone got ready for an expedition to a
place along the coast which Grandpa thought might interest them. They piled
into the pickup, filled with excitement at the thought of what the day might
               bring.

On arriving at the chosen spot, the gang wondered what was special about it as
they had passed lots of places equally interesting but hadn’t stopped at any of
               them.

“We have a bit of walking to do”, said Grandpa, “as you can’t park the car near
where I want to take you”.

“Everyone must carry something in their rucksacks”, said Granny, “we need to

take food, drink, and coats in case it rains”, she continued.

Rucksacks filled, shoe laces tied, then they were ready.

“This way, follow me”, said Grandpa in his best schoolmaster voice.

They walked for what seemed like hours, admiring the wild flowers, butterflies
and grazing cows as they went. Actually, they walked for less than an hour
when they came to a steep hill leading down to the sea.

“We are going to walk down to the sea now. A few weeks ago some of this hill
slipped down onto the beach below. We are going to take a look at it”, said
               Grandpa.

At this point Harry started to feel just a little excited because he thought that he
might have an idea as to what they might see.

They walked carefully down the hill and then turned to where the ground had

               only recently been uncovered.

“Right, spread out and see what you can find”, commanded Grandpa.

It wasn’t long before James spotted a strange shape in the rock. It looked like a
shell. “What’s this, Grandpa?”, he asked pointing at the object.

“That’s an ammonite. It was a large snail like creature that lived here millions

               of years ago”.
