will you please refer t.o the final paragraph of your
letter (IT 7363/327/91) of the 20th August to Hoyes-WHlar shout
the* Persian claim to Bahrain.
2. \ I have no comments except on the local aspect, I
agree that the longer we con keep the cose out of International cou
courts, assemblies and unions the better. To do t>»is supports
His Majesty's Government1s position as the protecting power of
the Arab States on the southern shores or the Persian Gulf.
3. A point, which 1 rnti'ht mention Is that of the Uninc-
up of Arab powers in support of Bahrain's present position.
I see that 'Iraq has already taken it unori herself to champion
the Bahrain- cause (vide enclosed extract). T am not, however,
in favour of pursuing such a course, and think the least sold the
better.
