Bahrain tolcnram No. 202 to Fore Inn Office
-2-
3. Tho High Executive Committee are highly oriticul of tho
Police handling of yesterday's riot. I am in contact with thorn
and am urging them most strongly t6 use their influence to get tho
strikers hack to work. But their influence seems to be much
less than it was. Tho Bahrain Government, are at my suggestion,
putting out on the radio a detailed account of the events of
yesterday and the reason for the firing. One moro man has since
died and two or three others are not expected to live.
4. Tho llulcr is anxious that stationing of British troops here
should bo regarded only as temporary expedient, lasting, he hopes,
only a few days. I hope therefore that if a statement on this
becomes n*. ccssary, in addition to tho points made in my telegram
No. 157, care will be taken to stress the temporary nature of the
arrangement. It would still be best that no statement should be
mado at all unless the nows loaks from r.onn other source.
