I v/ioli to point out, however, that I am not disputing with
them the moat of the ox, but merely the bonco and the hoofs
for tliay are already the owners of practically all the
agricultural lands* in tlio islandc which they have looted
from thu Bohruinas and from which they Y/ring the laot jun
penny, and in addition to this they own very valuable
bazaar property and markets. In view of this, if v/e allow
them to cat up in addition 50 / of thu grocs revenue, we’ •
are in my opinion failing in our duty. llr. Bolgravc
informs me that out of the oivil list of 108 persons,
many do not live in Bahrain and arc personally unknown to
him, and merely come here to receive thoir doles and retire.
Thu principal recipients are of course Shaikh Hamad,
12,500/- and Shaikh Abdullah, G,000/- ana Shaikh
Kuhummad, 3,500/- per monocm and Shaikh Salman who draws
1,400/} per rnensom. I therefore muko three suggestions.
7. An all round reduction of ten per cent except
for Shuikh Isa arid Shaikh Jiomad, whose allowance of
12,500/- is somewhat small in comparison to the pthers.
0. To reduce certain salaries. This would be
difficultyas the first to be reduced would undoubtedly
be Shaikh Abdullah*u as hio 6,000/- is out of all pro-
-portion to the othuru. Sliaikh Abdullah is undoubtedly
the ablost man in tho State ft aryaction which might un-
-settle him now that he appoaro to have turned ovor a
now loaf v/ould not in my opinion be worth the trouble
involved.
9. To leave the salaries as they are and to but ’
out the summer move allowances of 6,000/- to Shaikh Hamad,
? 2,000/- to Shaikh Huhumwad o.nd 15,00#/- to Shaikh Lswu.
Shaikh Hamad1o pay might then be brought upto 13,000/-,
10.
Tho main thing however is to get the Shaikh
to
