Abstract:
The objective of the study was to evaluate the possible protective effects of Achyranthes aspera leaf
methanolic extract (AALMEt) on cardiac marker enzymes, lipid profile and oxidative stress in
Isoproterenol induced myocardial necrosis in albino wistar rats. Albino wistar rats are divided into
Normal control, AALMEt alone treated, ISO control and pre-treated (AALMEt+ISO) in two different
concentration groups (150mg/KG BW,300mg/KG BW). The extracts were administered for 40 days
orally by gavage. Later ISO was administered at a dose of 85mg/KG body weight for two consecutive
days intraperitoneally at an interval of 24hrs. ISO induced myocardial infarction (MI) was classified by
the changes in serum lipid profile, heart tissue lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzyme levels. There
is a significant change in the Heart tissue cardiac markers and serum cardiac markers, similarly in the
lipid profile of both heart tissue and serum of the wistar rats. Histopathological changes confirmed that
Achyranthes aspera leaf methanolic extract has a protective effect on the heart tissue against ISO
induced Myocardial infarction. Molecular assay of TNF-α and IL-6,8 has declared a protective role of
A. aspera leaf methanolic extract over the necrosis of the heart tissue. The present study has shown a
positive response of phytochemicals of A. aspera leaf extract on the MI induced by ISO in albino wistar
rats.
